my top 5 nail polishes – summer 2012

After a few days of rain and grey, the sun is finally shining again. I took a morning stroll down to the Brooklyn waterfront to show you my top five polish picks for summer. While I love a good glitter, I’m finding myself gravitating toward simple and saturated cremes these days. Here’s what I’ll have on my fingers and toes this season:

Thumb to pinky:

OPI If You Moust You Moust: I wish this polish didn’t have such a terrible name because it really is a great pink for summer. I haven’t tried it on my toes yet, but I bet it would look great with summer sandals. This Pepto-pink has blue undertones and is shimmer-free.

Color Club Disco Nap: I got this metallic foil in my May Birchbox and I like it a lot. It’s almost identical to China Glaze Passion. Metallic polish is a great alternative to the brights and neons we usually associate with summer.

OCC Pool Boy: This bright blue is fresh and clean and somehow makes my pale skin appear slightly (like, really slightly) tan. Always a plus!

Nails Inc. Portobello: Portobello isn’t quite a neon, but almost. It’s a bit lighter and brighter than Essie Meet Me At Sunset, which is another summer go-to for me. If you always wear red on your nails, kick it up a notch this summer and try orange instead.

RGB Punch: If you’re embracing summer colors on your clothes, it can be nice to have clean, neutral nails. This peachy nude from RGB is fully opaque and applies nicely in three coats. Pair this with colored denim or a bright sundress and you’re ready for summer.

What colors are on your top 5 list right now? Let me know in the comments!
